D1- Evaluate how the technical and auditory qualities meet the identifies purpose.
Presenting the product to a focus group is important as it means that the product will have the ability to receive feedback so that it has the chance to be improved before the launch of the product. Focus groups are useful as the success of the product can be estimated by the response of the target audience against the product. The main pieces of feedback that I
received, where I needed to make improvements, were about how the music downed
out the end of the interviewees. To make these improvements, I adjusted the
tracks so that there would be a smaller overlap, this would mean that the
audience would be able to hear more clearly the end of each of the interviews
as the music would come in at a later time.
As visible from the time signature, it can be seen that the
music has been adjusted so that it starts later, and does not drown out the end
of the interview.
I also received lots of positive feedback from the focus group. Some of the feedback that I received was that the way that the three interviewees were each from a different generation of woman growing up was a really good way of presenting the stories as it meant that the stories were told were from three different perspectives as their contexts were different points in time. Some other positive feedback that I received was that the sound effects being subtle was good, as it meant that the listeners’ were more involved in the world of the story. The clients specifically liked how the interviewees were at ease as they were telling the stories as it made the stories accessible to listen to. This feedback affirmed my decisions about what content that I included as I was unsure at first about who I should interview for the pre-recorded radio segment.
I also gained some constructive criticism about a specific way that the pre-recorded radio segment could be improved. In interview 1, the interviewee (Ivy Bollans) talked about going to a place called 'Itchy-Coo Park'. The clients were interested to know why the park was called that. In the original interview, Ivy Bollans explained why she knew the park by that name, but it was edited out because it made the timeline too long. When I make improvements to the product, I will add this part of the interview in as the clients explicitly asked for that information after listening to my pre-recorded radio segment. Overall, I did not gain any useless feedback, but I did gain the same feedback more than once, therefore I know that I need to improve that bit of my pre-recorded radio segment.
I think that the clients will use my pre-recorded radio segment as inspiration for their final product as the stories are interesting and fun. I hope that the clients choose to replicate the stories from my pre-recorded radio segment in their final product as they are stories that are not commonly shared.
